St. Paul’s United Church

Our Mission: Glorifying God through Worship, Proclaiming the Gospel of Christ, and Serving Others in Christ’s name.

From the desk of Rev. Michelle…

Last Sunday, our congregation and St. Andrew’s met in congregational meetings where the Ecumenical Shared Ministry Agreement was discussed and voted on. In both cases, the vote was overwhelmingly in favour of moving forward with the agreement. This was a critical moment for our future. The agreement has now been forwarded to the Region for approval ahead of October 15th.

In the meantime, things are moving, literally. This week saw some of the larger items that we are taking with us head to St. Andrew’s. The Pantry is set to start operating out of its new location at the beginning of October and Meghan has been boxing up all the non-critical things in the office.

It is hard to believe that in less than a month we will be having our final service in this building. I know that there are a lot of feelings about leaving this building that has been our home. Like the homes that we grew up in, church buildings get vested with so many memories and experiences. This similarity can help us as all of us have had the experience of leaving “home” at least once in our lives.

As we prepare to move our congregation into a new home, spending time ritually saying goodbye can help us prepare for moving forward. So, what have you done in the past when you had to move on to something new? What might help you to process this current move?

For me, the music of our faith helps to keep me grounded and reminds me that I am not alone. It also helps me see what is happening in the current moment as being part of God’s larger story. This week the final verse of One More Step Along the World I Go VU 639 has been in my head, so I will share it today with you as our prayer, because after all it has been said that singing is praying twice!

You are older than the world can be,

You are younger than the life in me,

Ever old and ever new,

Keep me travelling along with you:

And it’s from the old I travel to the new,

Keep me traveling along with you.

In everything we do, may we do it with God.  Amen!
