St. Paul’s United Church
Our Mission: Glorifying God through Worship, Proclaiming the Gospel of Christ, and Serving Others in Christ’s name.
From the desk of Rev. Michelle…
In the last week, I have been involved highly in the part of my position that involves the wider church. Last weekend, I was at Fundy St. Lawrence Dawning Waters (our Region’s) annual meeting. Delegates from New Brunswick, PEI, and the Gaspe gathered at the University of PEI. The theme for the weekend was Daring to Dream Faith in Action. We heard about all the ways that the region had been moving in faith during the past year. We also participated in table groups, providing feedback about our dreams for the region and how we hoped the church would move forward faithfully into the future. There were bold dreams for a church that was transforming lives and welcoming all.
The trouble with amazing times away is that when you get home, so often the joy and excitement fade as the everyday requirements and commitments come crashing back in. I am sure you have had this experience in your professional lives, where you get all kinds of great ideas, but the implementation of them can sometimes be a challenge. There is some amazing work being done in our region and by our social justice networks. I want to encourage you to check out their website https://ucceast.ca/justice-mission-outreach-2 to learn about the ways faith is being activated and how you can be involved too.
This week, I am also in my second “residency” of the Moderator’s ReGenerate Leadership program. This program is part of the overall theme of thriving that the Moderator has chosen for her work. Specifically, this program is seeking to invigorate leadership for a flourishing church. A large part of the learnings has been taking a deep look at tools that draw on the best practices and new research within the not-for-profit world and translating them into the church. As we move into the end of 2024 I will be sharing more about my capstone project for this program. As we move through the changes in our congregation the tools have been helpful.
Now back to a Zoom meeting for me.
Loving God,
You have called us to be the church,
To proclaim the truth that you are the God of life.
Help us to see ourselves as part of your ongoing story,
To take our place boldly and know you are with us.
And so we pray with the words of a familiar hymn
“Melt me, mould me, fill me, use me.
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.”
Amen.
