St. Paul’s United Church
Our Mission: Glorifying God through Worship, Proclaiming the Gospel of Christ and Serving Others in Christ’s name.
From the desk of Rev. Michelle…
This Sunday we have a rich passage full of opportunities to reflect. Part of the reading is the Beatitudes. Reading all the “Blessed are…” reminded me of the bag-tags, wallet cards and magnets that we handed out in September proclaiming we are Blessed to be a Blessing. The beatitudes push us to think about what it actually means to be blessed and how even the most challenging times can reveal God’s blessing in our lives. With familiar scriptures, it is sometimes hard to listen deeply in a way that lets the words touch our lives. Today, I just want to share with you the words of Matthew 5:3-10 as written in the Message translation of the bible. May it help you to experience new insights in these old words.
“You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule.
You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you.
You’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are—no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought.
You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God. He’s food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat.
You’re blessed when you care. At the moment of being ‘care-full,’ you find yourselves cared for.
You’re blessed when you get your inside world—your mind and heart—put right. Then you can see God in the outside world.
You’re blessed when you can show people how to cooperate instead of compete or fight. That’s when you discover who you really are, and your place in God’s family.
You’re blessed when your commitment to God provokes persecution. The persecution drives you even deeper into God’s kingdom.
May we remember that we are both blessed by God and beloved in God’s eyes. That the Holy One wants to work in us and through us and maybe most importantly, God is with us and is giving us what we need!
This weekend we will be celebrating the sacrament of Baptism as we welcome Brian Webb into the beloved community of God. We will also be welcoming his parents into full membership in this congregation. I hope you will be able to join us. In the meantime, let us pray!
In baptism we come to know ourselves as your beloved children,
Touched by the Spirit our souls take flight as we come to know who you made us to be,
Help us Holy One, to live as people held in your promise and love
Called to share that love, and hope, and mercy with the world.
Continue to bless us with knowledge of your work in our lives
And your presence that gives us ground to stand tall that we may be your church in the world.
This we pray in Christ’s name. Amen.

Kindred Works And St. Paul’s ~ Presentation This Thursday!
Over the last year, the Trustees, Property and the Board have been learning more about what this organization of the United Church can do for our congregation.
