3. Message from the FundScrip Team
If you haven’t taken part in this program before, here’s how it works. FundScrip is Canada’s most successful Gift Card Fundraiser. The process is simple. You purchase gift cards through the church office to cover all your shopping needs . . . groceries, gas, hardware, restaurants, etc. Cards from over 200 retailers in New Brunswick and usable across Canada are available in different denominations from $5 at Starbucks to $500 at Staples, Home Depot and Home Hardware. Each purchase automatically includes a donation from the retailer to St. Paul’s calculated as a percentage of the card’s value. There is no cost to you for this donation. You receive the full face value of every card you purchase. Just fill out an order form, take it to the office during the week or bring it to church on Sunday, and pre-pay by cash, cheque or e-transfer. We receive the cards within a few days and distribute them immediately either at church on Sunday or at the office.
Remember: Shopping is fundraising for St. Paul’s!
4. Preaching this week is Rose-Hannah Gaskin
5. St. Paul’s Community of Faith Committee Letter to Congregation
Greetings St. Paul’s friends!
The Community Of Faith Committee is looking forward to speaking with you by phone, by Teams, or by a mail in survey. The choice is yours, and we are interested in hearing what you have to say in any way that you chose.
We have prepared questions that we believe will get to the heart of who we believe we are as friends and members of St. Paul’s United Church. For those of you who are comfortable using applications such as Teams or Zoom, simply let us know by responding to this email using this address derrick6g@gmail.com and put Teams in the subject line of your email. Once we have a list of the people interested, we will send out an invitation to you which will have a date and time.
For those of you who wish to respond to the questions by written response, put ‘written survey’ in the subject line and we will either email a questionnaire to you or send you a paper copy for you to write on and deliver it back to us.
For those of you who wish to speak by phone, simply respond to this email using this address derrick6g@gmail.com and put ‘phone’ in the subject line. Please include your phone number as well as the best time to call, and we will have one of our committee members reach out to you.
Once we have collected the survey information, we will put a summary of the answers together for the Board, and eventually it will be available to you. The goal of this exercise is for us all to get a better understanding of both who we are, as well as what we think we should be doing.
Please respond to this email using this address derrick6g@gmail.com and don’t forget to put your communication preference in the subject line. We look forward to hearing from you!
Derrick Grant, on behalf of Roger Miller, Erin Hayes, Janis Violette, Blaine Irving and Ann Krause
6. St. Paul’s Online Spring Silent Auction
We’re having an Online Spring Silent Auction! As you know, the pandemic has hit our fundraising efforts hard, but the need in the community only continues to grow. To help support our many, ongoing ministries, we are hosting an online (Facebook) auction from May 5-10.
Before that though, we need donations of your time, talent, and treasure! If you have a special talent, provide a service, or have new or gently used goods you no longer need, please consider donating. The same kinds of items you donate to regular silent auctions would be perfect. Items should be dropped to the church between April 8 -22, during regular hours.
If you’re new to online auctions, here’s how it will work:
The basic concept is the same as a traditional auction, but instead of being held in the hall, the auction happens entirely online and runs for 6 days.
- Between April 8 – 22, drop off your donations to the church (please be COVID safe!). Include a short, written description of your item and an estimate of its value (if applicable).
- If your item is “intangible” (e.g. a service), email a description to Jen Petryshen at jmvandergaag@hotmail.com, or leave a note in the office.
- Between May 5 -10, we’re live! Visit our Facebook page, where you will be able to view photos (thanks, Kelly!) of all the donated items. To bid, simply enter the amount of your bid as a comment on the photo of that item.
- When the auction ends, we will notify the successful bidders who can then pay and collect their item(s) during regular church hours, starting May 11.
- Payment must be made before or at pickup, by e-transfer, cash, or credit card.
- Items not paid for by Tuesday, May 18 will be offered to the next highest bidder.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Kelly Simpson or Jen Petryshen. To see an example of a Facebook auction, check out this one by DunRoamin’ Stray and Rescue: https://www.facebook.com/

8. Looking for a day outside this Saturday. We need many ladies and gentlemen to help us sweep, rake, clean flower beds and generally help St Paul’s property to awaken from their winter sleep. Would really appreciate it if you could join us with brooms, rakes, clippers and trowels in the Charlotte Street parking lot, April 24 at 10 AM (rain date May 1, 10 AM. Many hands make light work. Thanks!!
9. Ministry and Personnel Committee Notice:
The Ministry and Personnel (M&P) Committee acts under the guidelines of The Manual of The United Church of Canada. The committee functions around three roles, which are consultative and supportive role, the healthy relationships role, and the supervisory role. We provide resources and support for the staff and the community of faith with respect to any issue affecting staff of our church, including ministry personnel and lay employees. The committee works to build positive and trusting relationships between staff and members and adherents of the community of faith.
If members of the community of faith have praise or concerns about staff, both ministry personnel and lay employees, these can be shared in signed correspondence with the committee. The issues will be considered confidentially by the M&P Committee, who will recommend action.
St. Paul’s United Church is blessed with staff who are committed to their work and we are thankful for this work in our community of faith.
Presently serving on the M&P Committee: Lois Walker, Blaine Irving and Ann Krause (Chair).
