As we continue into the third week of May, we can look around and see and feel that Spring is here. The trees are budding, the air is warming, and the world is coming to life around us. In all of this we turn to God, who is the one who set the universe on its cycle of life, death, and new life, and we are reminded that our faith and our lives follows the same cycle as the world around us.
For all the blessings, great and small, we are called to give thanks to God, from the air we breathe, to the homes we live in. We do this in good company: with all the creatures of the earth, the birds of the air, and the beasts of the deep waters.
This attitude and orientation has us looking outward with gratitude, reminded that we are not alone in our day to day, but that God walks with us. When we offer thanks for every blessing that we come across in the span of the day, we find that indeed God is lavishing us with gifts, and we will run out of breath for all the thanks we have offered.
Let us turn again to God who is right beside us on this journey.
Let us pray
Psalm 104:24-30
O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. Yonder is the sea, great and wide, creeping things innumerable are there, living things both small and great. There go the ships, and Leviathan that you formed to sport in it.
These all look to you to give them their food in due season; when you give to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are filled with good things. When you hide your face, they are dismayed; when you take away their breath, they die and return to their dust. When you send forth your spirit, they are created; and you renew the face of the ground.
Creating God, everyday is a new creation, and every moment a new opportunity. We give you thanks this day for the breath that fills our lungs and the Holy breath that fills our souls with hope and light. Guide us in every moment of this new day as we seek to bring the Good News of your love to a world that is yearning for your embrace. This we ask in the strong name of our brother and saviour Jesus Christ. AMEN
