As we make our way through this week, it’s easy to fall into the routine of wake, work, eat, and sleep. Sometimes it can be difficult to see where we are called to serve God in the midst of what has become ordinary.
However, everyday God is calling us to add our extra to the ordinary, to share the good news, and in our serving God, serve one another.
Let us listen to the wisdom found in today’s Psalm.
Psalm 116:16-19:
O Lord, I am your servant; I am your servant, the child of your serving-maid. You have loosed my bonds.
I will offer to you a thanksgiving sacrifice and call on the name of the Lord.
I will pay my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people,
in the courts of the house of the Lord, in your midst, O Jerusalem. Praise the Lord!
You, O God, are the master of our lives. When we wake, you are there having watched over us in sleep. When we walk this world, you walk beside us, the Holy Spirit whispering in our ears where you would have us go. When we eat, your blessing is on the food, and so we are blessed in the sharing. And when we sleep, there you are again, ready to watch over our dreams, to hold us through our nightmares. We are thankful for your constant presence, O God.
Guide us this day that we might serve you fully. In the whispers of the Holy Spirit, may we hear our true calling and live lives of care and love.
Give our voice strength as we proclaim in our work and play the greatness and the wideness of your love. Whether we are at church on Sunday or being church the rest of the week may our every act be one of praise to you.
We are your servants, O God, lead us we pray. AMEN
