As we move into the Easter season, we celebrate a gift that all Christians celebrate at this time: new life, eternal life in the rising of Jesus Christ. In the Psalm for today we hear how good that kind of unity is. In the context of the Psalm, we are of course reading of the goodness of the unity of the whole household of Israel, but the goodness is just as great when we as Christians unify under the banner of hope and grace.

As we strive for greater unity within our denomination and across ecumenical lines, let us always be reminded of the joy that comes to God in our coming together, in our being the body of Christ. We are all members of that body, called to different work and ways, but we are still one body.

Let us pray

Psalm 133

How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity!

It is like the precious oil on the head, running down upon the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down over the collar of his robes.

It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion. For there the Lord ordained his blessing, life forevermore.

Holy One, we come before you as your children – all of us – in the light of your love. Help us to celebrate that which makes us unique while still driving us to common ground. Remind us always that we as a creation are a reflection opf your image, and that image in only complete when we embrace one another in love. We offer this and all our prayers in the strong name of Christ our Lord. AMEN
